When I drive on the road I am always attracted by some names of the landmark or towns. Since I moved to Prescott in Arizona from California last summer, I drove several times between the bay area and Prescott and noticed the name of Kingman and Bullhead on historical rout 66 (now the highway 40). The black canyon rocks appear to me so old that always draw my attention with curiosity. There are 5 days school break of thanksgiving day, so I decided to explore the black rocks in Kingman and Bullhead City. However, there are so many surprising attraction around bullhead city, that I stayed the whole time there without going to Kingman this time.

The sacred river cutting through the Grand Canyon, Colorado River , has always been one of the most mythical river to me, so I stayed in Colorado riverside hotel in Bullhead city. Driving down from Highway 93 to 68 toward riverside hotel, you will see many astonishing views of rocks standing right by the road. But it's hard to find a place to stop at the curving road to take pictures. I was attracted most by a far rock on the road which has a big "horn" on the top, as shown by picture below:

So I decided to do a hike in the black mountains where I this giant bull horn rock locates. It ends up a very exciting hike with gorgeous far views of waves of mountains and near views of astonishing rock heads. Following are pictures from this hike. I am very excited to find the rock a vivid statue of a bull or more accurately, a rhinoceros.

Further approaching the rock, you will find a very sophisticated cluster of statues displaying many views of life emerged from the previous ocean bed of the Black Canyon.

The above is the right side of the rock, a giant root of man. Not only the top rock reveals the roots of prehistorical lives, all the rocks around me looks so much like piles of skeletons of apes. Share a few snapshots below. No words are powerful enough to express what I felt there.

"Man has developed consciousness slowly and laboriously, in a process that took untold ages to reach the civilized state. And this evolution is far from complete, for large areas of the human mind are still shrouded in darkness.” -Man and His Symbols, Carl Jung
